Activity 1: Mathematics: Patterning 

Duration: 10 minutes 

Materials: forks, spoons 

Beginning: Let the children know that they will be making patterns. You can start forming an alternating pattern with a fork and a spoon (Fork - spoon - fork - spoon)

Middle: Ask the child to continue the pattern you started.

End: Encourage the child to make his/her own pattern. 
(It can be a simple pattern:
Fork-spoon-fork-spoon-fork-spoon.. 

Or 

It can be a complex pattern:
Fork-fork-spoon-fork-fork-spoon-fork-fork-spoon …)

Activity 2: Science:  Making play dough

Duration: 15-20 minutes

Materials: 
·         2 cups all-purpose flour
·         3/4 cup salt
·         4 teaspoons cream of tartar
·         2 cups warm water
·         2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil 
·         Food colouring (optional)
·         Quart sized bags to store

Procedure: Let the children mix and knead all the ingredients together. 

This is a multipurpose activity that helps children measure (Mathematics), experiment and predict (Science) and use the muscles in their hands to knead and squeeze. (Fine motor skills)

Activity 1: Language & Literacy: Name writing 



Duration: 10 minutes


Materials: Pencil, paper

Beginning: You write down your child’s name on the paper (First letter upper case and the rest lower case).

Middle: The child copies his/her name. (If he/she is able to write the first name without looking, you may encourage him/her to write the last name or the name of a family member) 

End: Talk about each letter of their name and its sound.

Activity 2: Fine motor skills: Lacing 



Duration: 10- 15 minutes


Materials:

1) Pipe cleaner/shoelace/ a piece of yarn/ string (any one of these)

2) Penne pasta/ beads with holes/ cheerio’s (any one of these)

Beginning: Let the children know that they will be lacing pasta on to the string.

Middle: Let the children lace the pasta one by one by passing the string through the hole of each pasta piece.

End: Acknowledge their ideas. You may count how many pasta pieces there are on the string. 

(This activity helps children develop their fine motor muscles and also their hand-eye coordination).

Activity 1: Creative art: Draw your family

Duration: 10-15 minutes 

Materials: Crayons or coloured pencils, paper 

Beginning: Start the activity by talking about the family members. Discuss their features/similarities and differences. 

Middle: The children draw each family member. 

End: Talk about the shape of their faces, their height, hair, colour of the eye etc.

Activity 2: Pretend Play: Re-enactment of the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.’ 

Duration: 10 minutes
Pretend to go on a hunt of your own. Ask the child what he/she is hunting for. 
The children can be very creative with their imagination. 
Pretend to hunt for whatever they suggested. 
Pretend to cross all the hurdles mentioned in the book. 
The children can suggest some other hurdles of their own to cross. 
In the end, when they find whatever animal they were hunting for, pretend to run away from it by crossing all the hurdles again.

Activity 1: Mathematics: Counting 

Duration: 10-15 Minutes 

Materials: Cereal (cheerio’s, fruit loops etc), bowl

Beginning: Put a spoon full of cereal into a bowl. Let the children know that they will be counting the cereal as they eat. 

Middle: The child starts eating the cereal. He/she counts as he/she puts each individual cereal piece into their mouth. 

End: You ask them how many pieces are left in the bowl each time they put one in the mouth. 

(This activity helps children count and learn to subtract)



Activity 2: Science: Experiment

Duration: 15-20 Minutes

Materials: Paint (any two colours), paint brush, paper, bowl 

Beginning: The children would be mixing two colours of paint. Ask them, “What they think would happen if they mix the two colours?”

Middle: Let them mix and say, “I can see the colour is changing”. Acknowledge their ideas.

End: Give them paper and let them paint. 

(This activity helps children experiment, predict and analyse).

Activity 1:  Language & Literacy: Reading


Duration: 15-20 minutes  

Materials: Book (We're Going on a Bear Hunt)

Beginning: Go through the pictures in the book without reading the words. (Mute the video if you do not have a hard copy of the book and are watching the video. The link to the video is provided below)

Middle: Turn the volume on or read the words in the book if you have a hard copy. Acknowledge children’s ideas as you go. Make them predict what may happen next in the story as you go through the book/video. 

End: Recall the story. Ask and answer the questions related to the book.

Activity 2:  Fine motor skills: Transferring with a Spoon


Duration: 15 minutes 

Materials: a spoon, rice/ small pasta/ beans, two bowls


Beginning: Introduce the activity by telling the children that they would be transferring the rice/ small pasta/ beans from one bowl to another using the spoon.


Middle: The child transfers the materials from one bowl to another.


End: Let them transfer it back to the first bowl. 


(This activity helps with the development of fine motor skills as well as hand-eye coordination)
