Today's song is: Baby Shark
Activity 1: Literacy, Science, Pretend play - Fishing Alphabet
Duration: 10 – 15 minutes
Materials: magnet, paper clips, (wooden
stick/rod/ pencil), glue, string, marker, scissors to cut out a fish shape
1-inch or you could print template, minimum 10 pieces, (if you don’t have individual magnets at home, you
could use an old fridge magnet the size of a coin. Or you can use tongs)
Optional: laundry basket, light blue blanket/ bed sheet.
-Glue the magnet to the end of the sting
and at the other end glue/ tie a knot to the wooden stick/rod to form a fishing
rod. -Write a letter on each fish using a marker e.g. H, J, K, L, M, N, O, P,
S, T. -Place a paperclip on each cut out fish and scatter them on a blue
blanket. -You can
give the child the choice to stand or sit inside the laundry basket to pretend
they are in a boat fishing.
Beginning: Tell the child a short story
about how some baby fishes got lost in the ocean and ask them if they could
help the fish get back to their mummy’s. Then say “We have lots of fish, I
wonder how we can rescue them?” encourage them to give you suggestions and
follow their lead.
Middle: While the child is collecting the
fish encourage the child to say the letters and phonic sound on the fish, they
collected. You could also ask them about what other creatures live in the
ocean, ask them what they look like, do they look the same/different, do they
have legs or tails? encouraging them to explain.
End: Once the child is almost finished
collecting all the fish, give them a 5-minute warning letting them know that
it’s almost time to clean up. Encourage them to help with the cleaning up
process and you could ask them if they have any ideas where they could keep the
fish in case, they would like to play the game again.
Extension: You
could have the child put all the fish in alphabetical order or encourage the
child to find more objects around the house to see which are magnetic and
non-magnetic, asking them why they think some objects stick and some do not.
(This activity helps to improve your child’s hand eye coordination,
letter recognition, sorting magnetic and non-magnetic objects.)

Activity 2: Fine Motor, Art, Science (Natural and physical world)- Making Play dough Bugs
Duration: 15 – 20 minutes
Materials: play dough, straws, googly
eyes, scissors. Optional (backup): pipe cleaners, buttons, small sticks,
rolling pin, plastic knife.
Beginning: Tell the child we have play
dough, straws, a pair of scissors and googly eyes, “I wonder what bug you will
make?” The child might say what bug he/she will make.
Middle: Encourage and notice what the
child is making, ask questions like, “I wonder how many legs your bug will
have, can it fly or crawl etc?” work alongside the child, you can either copy
the same thing the child is doing or make your own.
End: Give the child a 5-minute warning
and encourage them to help you clean up.
Extension: Have the
child go out in the garden or open space and ask them if they can find some
bugs real or pretend. If you don’t have much nature around, you can simply hide
plastic bugs (or print out pictures of bugs, stick and cut out on a thick card)
around the house and have the child find them.
(This activity helps to improve the
child’s fine motor skills, encourages creativity, lets the child use their
imaginations, improves their attention span and encourages them to think
critically about different types of bugs and their similarities and
differences.)

with the spoon.
Middle: Talk about the texture and use
vocabulary: liquid, smooth, jelly like substance
End: Give 3-5 mins warning. Let him/her
touch, feel and smell the slime.
Extension: Let your child experiment some
ideas using slime. For example: The child may test the stickiness by seeing how
many items can be picked up with their slime or your child may use the
magnifying glass to see the slime very closely. Ask them what they see.
(Purpose: This activity gives the opportunity to discover and to
develop new skills as they form predictions and make observations.)
Brain Break ! (Yoga Pose or Breathing)
Activity 2: Mathematics: Make shapes with yarn
Duration: 10
minutes
Materials: different sizes of yarn / string /
shoelace
Beginning: Give your child the pieces of yarn
/ string / shoelace. Talk about the sizes and use vocabulary: long and short.
Say, “I wonder what we can do with the yarn?”
Middle: First you may take a piece of yarn
and make any shape for example: circle. Wait for your child's response and
encourage him/her to make the same shape using different sizes of yarn.
End: Compare your shapes. Talk about
similarities and differences. Give 3 minutes warning before the end of the
activity. Acknowledge your child’s ideas.
Extension: You may discuss the sides of the
shapes with your child. Point and count for each shape. e.g. Triangle has 3
sides. Square and rectangle have 4 sides. Circle does not have any
(The purpose of this activity is to help children recognize what a
shape consists of i.e. identifies shape attributes and encourages children to
compose and decompose shapes.)

does he/she think may fill the jug? Once the child gives an estimate, ask
him/her to draw as many tally marks as his/her estimate on a paper.
Middle: Ask the child to fill the cup with water (from the tap or another
big container) and start pouring it in the jug, one cup at a time. Ask the
child to count the number of cups of water as he/she is pouring it.
End: In the end ask the child to draw as many tally marks as the number
of cups he/she poured into the jug.
Extension: The
child compares if it took more or less cups to fill the jug than his/her
estimate.

Activity 2: Science
(Experiment)
Duration: 10- 15
minutes
Materials: 2 cups corn starch, 3 drops food
colouring and 1 cup of water
Beginning: Let the child know that you will be
making something gooey that is a little bit like slime. It can feel like a

go loose. It takes the shape of whatever is holding it. Introduce the materials
to him/her.
Middle: Mix the corn starch and water until
your oobleck is formed.
(Tip: If you would like to colour your oobleck,
add your food colouring to the water and then mix with the corn starch)
End: Give the child a five
minutes warning before the end of the activity and let him/her help you clean
up afterwards.
Extension: You could allow your child to add their toys to the oobleck. In the beginning ask them what they think will happen when they put their toys in. Use words such as gooey, slimy, solid, liquid and describe what you see the child doing.
Extension: You could allow your child to add their toys to the oobleck. In the beginning ask them what they think will happen when they put their toys in. Use words such as gooey, slimy, solid, liquid and describe what you see the child doing.
